It’s always fun dressing up for Halloween, but the best bit is the makeup! I always say if you are stuck for inspiration then just take a look outside your window, all the beautiful colours of autumn work so well for achieving a good Halloween look. Here is a simple but effective look….

Step 1

Apply some moisturiser all over the face, then apply some foundation on your eyelids using your fingers follow this by some translucent powder. This makes a great blank canvas for you to work with.

Step 2

Now using a neutral/ nude eye shadow cover the whole eye area covering the brow area too. Now here comes the fun bit… you can either use black eye shadow (boring) or be creative and use orange/ bright green. Apply this to the lids of the eyes only, leaving the brow area for highlighting later.

Step 3

Now that the eyelids are covered, we want to add depth and texture to the look. By adding a deeper colour of the same shade to the corner of the eyes, now blend the two colours together so there are no harsh lines, bringing the darker shade to the middle of the eyes (if your eyes are close together) if your eyes are not close together then take the darker shade towards the inner corner of the eyes. This will widen they eye and make it look larger.

Step 4

We need to add the last touched to the lids as far as the eye shadow goes… using a very little amount of black eye shadow (dark brown if you’re using orange). Load your brush and tap off any excess onto a tissue. Dab this only to the very very end of the eye corner in a V shape….. Blend this in nicely not taking away too much of the colour. This collaboration of colour will not only look stunning but will look well balanced. If you are more confident, and then I would add more of the black/brown and take this almost to the brow, but be careful to blend .If you are taking this colour to the brow then you need to kick out the colour to the end of the brow. This would look like a larger V at the corner of your eye. Now just apply some glittery pearly colour to the brow area this will highlight this area and make the eye shape more defined.

Step 5

Add some false eyelashes (as funky as possible, these can be applied by using the instructions on the back of the eyelash case) Once they have dried…. add some eyeliner ( I would personally like to use a khol pencil rather than liquid liner, as it gives a more smudged look, but if you are more confident using liquid then do so) All we need to do is apply the khol pencil according to your individual eye shape. This should be applied from the inner corner all the way to the outer corner. Now blend this in slightly using a damp cotton bud. Now do the same to the bottom of the eye (also cover the water line) Use a damp cotton bud to smudge this line so it looks rather somkey…. use a vibrant pencil in the same colour of your eye shadow you have used, go over the black khol pencil on your lower lid.

Step 6

Coat you’re lashes with a few coats of black mascara, also on the lower lashes. Just add some glitter to the lids of the eyes. This completes the look on the eyes.

Step 7

The next step is to clear up any of the eye shadow dust from your face and prepare it for the foundation. Use either your fingers to apply your foundation or a brush (I like to use my fingers or a sponge as it gives a better finish.

Step 8

We need a bit of colour on the cheeks but very lightly, as we want the emphasis to be on the eyes, you can either use a pale pink or even a peachy tone both will do fine.

Step 9

Lips very important… there is a choice of either red or black lipstick; I would suggest red if you have used green eye shadow and red if you have used orange on the eyes. Both will look nice and compliment the eyes. Using a lip liner pencil of the same colour of your choice of lipstick, shape your lips and then add the lipstick using a brush.

Your look is complete! Happy experimenting…feel free to send me some pictures if you have tried this look.

This season there are lots of colours to explore with , the colours to watch out for on the eyes is still pretty much the Smokey look, but without the use of too much black. Deep blue is the new black! As well as using deep blues other colours which have proven to be a hit on the catwalk are metallic eye shadows in deep purples, maroons, dark greens and shades of chocolate. The best thing is this look can be pulled off by any skin tone and eye colour.(Watch out for a step by step guide to achieving this look this week)

Autumn months require a more polished look capturing the atmosphere for autumn, to achieve a more polished look bronzers should be avoided as they can look unnatural at this time of year. More warming colours should be used all around the face such as pinks, concentrating more on the apples of the cheeks. This shade will not only lift your skin tone but also blend in with this autumn’s eye shadows.

Watch out this week for Halloween looks, using orange and purple shade!

As you all know the fashion colours on the catwalk this summer are peaches and greys! Not only do they make an amazing combination but they look great with charcoal Smokey eyes, using different shades of greys and blacks on the eye lids really bring out the colour of your own eyes and look great with these summery colours! Be sure to apply several coats of thick black mascara and if you like wearing kohl in your water line…Then go ahead! As the eye makeup is dark we want tone down the lips, so in this case clear lip-gloss or even a peachy shade would look awesome! As its summer coral colours look great on the cheeks enhanced with a tinge of bronzer. This look is great for the summer and suites all eyes shapes and skin tones! Happy make ping!!!
